npm, explained simply
npm stands for Node Package Manager. It comes with Node.js.
You type a short command, and npm fetches a tool and the other pieces it needs.
For example, an install guide may tell you to run npm install, which downloads everything for a project.
Only install packages from makers you trust, since anyone can publish one.
On ITG Now, our free tool guides show the exact npm command when a tool needs it, and explain what it does.
