Webhook, explained simply
A webhook is like a doorbell for software. When an event happens, one app rings another app's bell and passes along the details.
The receiving app gives the sender a web address to use. That address is the webhook URL.
For example, when someone fills in your form, a webhook can tell your chat app to post a note. No one has to check anything by hand.
On ITG Now, our free tool guides mention webhooks when a tool can ping another app, like sending an alert to your chat when a job finishes.

Questions people ask about Webhook
Webhook vs API: what is the difference?
With an API, your app asks for data when it wants it. With a webhook, the other app sends you data as soon as something happens.
Do I need to code to use a webhook?
Not always. Many no-code tools let you paste a webhook URL into a box and you are done.
Is a webhook safe?
It can be, if you keep the webhook URL private. Anyone who has the address may be able to send messages to it.
